About Kiara Thomas

Kiara Thomas is a Canberra-based communications specialist focusing on writing and editing. Kiara is particularly interested in editing non-fiction, writing and editing children’s literature, writing content for digital publication and writing and editing biographies. 

Kiara is a member of the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd), the Canberra Society of Editors (CSE), Omega Writers and Life Stories Australia. Kiara is dedicated to being an exceptional writer and editor and regularly undertakes professional development.

Kiara is beginning her journey as a freelance writer and editor. She has written business documents for the Canberra-based transport support company, IDrive4U. She has also consulted with several independent authors, including poets, memoirists and business writers. 

Kiara has been Communications Assistant and Writer for Canberra’s 1WAY FM since January 2023. In this role, Kiara researches, writes, edits and proofreads digital content. Kiara also interned at TUNE FM, the student media group at the University of New England. As an intern, she wrote articles and podcast scripts for various outlets. Kiara has also worked as a writer and editor for Unexpected: The Student Edit. As an editor, having the experience to work alongside others was a rewarding and exciting experience. 

In 2024, Kiara was asked to be a judge for Omega Writers’ CALEB Awards. This award supports excellence in writing by encouraging and educating writers, regardless of genre. 

Kiara is currently studying a Bachelor of Media and Communications with a major in Writing and Publishing at the University of New England. 

Kiara is also working on her first book, a picture book about a big family’s special Christmas traditions.  

Kiara loves all things bookish, big cups of tea, dogs and musicals. When she’s not working, you can find her reading, writing, singing or enjoying long chats with friends.
