Kiara Thomas is a Canberra-based communications specialist focusing on writing and editing. Kiara is particularly interested in editing non-fiction, writing and editing children’s literature, writing content for digital publication and writing and editing biographies. 

Kiara is a member of the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd), the Canberra Society of Editors (CSE), Omega Writers, Life Stories Australia, the Australian Society of Authors (ASA), and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). Kiara is dedicated to being an exceptional writer and editor and regularly undertakes professional development.

Kiara has worked with numerous authors, including children's authors, memoirists, poets, novelists and business writers. 

Kiara was Communications Assistant and Writer for Canberra’s 1WAY FM from January 2023 until October 2025. In this role, Kiara researched, wrote, edited and proofread digital content. Kiara also interned at TUNE FM, the student media group at the University of New England. As an intern, she wrote articles and podcast scripts for various outlets. Kiara has also worked as a writer and editor for Unexpected: The Student Edit. As an editor, having the experience to work alongside others was a rewarding and exciting experience.  Kiara also worked as Professional Development Officer for the NSW branch of the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd). 

In 2024 and 2025, Kiara was asked to be a judge for Omega Writers’ CALEB Awards. This award supports excellence in writing by encouraging and educating writers, regardless of genre. Kiara is delighted to offer appointments as a specialist at this year's Omega Writer's Conference in Adelaide. 

Kiara is currently studying a Bachelor of Media and Communications with a major in Writing and Publishing and a minor in Digital and Social Media at the University of New England. 

Kiara loves all things bookish, big cups of tea, dogs and musicals. When she’s not working, you can find her reading, writing, singing or enjoying long chats with friends. 

When Kiara Thomas was one year old, her doctor noted that she was “obviously very interested in picture books,” and Kiara has been proving her right ever since. Now an up-and-coming picture book author, Kiara writes heartwarming and whimsical true stories that celebrate family, friendships and the simple joys in life. She hopes her books help create special moments between you and your loved ones, too.  

Kiara's first picture book, Big Family Boxing Day releases on 6 October 2026.
